There is also a large force that desires that you return to your bondage. Call him what you want, but the fact remains that Satan is scheming against you so that you return to a position where God is not in control of your life; a position where God is beside other things rather than above all things. In this way, you will return to a state of misery and hopelessness. Though your initial freedom and eternal freedom have been secured, you hold the responsibility of living in hope or Hell every day.

God is not one more thing we add to our lives. He is above our lives and wants to work through every area of our lives. I have a yard hydrant our back and on it I put what is called a manifold. This allows the one flow of water to be diverted through several hoses to water many things at once. Our lives are to be manifolds for God’s light through being a parent, spouse, leader, worker, citizen, coach, etc. The light of the world has decided to shine through you…

If Jesus simply let the woman go, then He would be seen as being easy on sin and could have been arrested for being in violation of the Law. If, however, He gave permission for the woman to be killed, He could then be accused before Rome as an upstart and a seditionist, and He would have destroyed His reputation as being the “friend of publicans and sinners”. They felt that no matter what Jesus said, He had no wiggle room.

Even though Jesus sent them into the storm, He had a purpose. Jesus saw them and came to them in them in the storm. He is coming to you in your storm. Will you let Him in your boat?

He said it! He and God are father and son. This made the religious leaders livid. He not only broke the religious law by healing this man on the Sabbath, but he now proclaimed to be equal with God. Before we excuse ourselves because of our lack of divinity, let’s remember the humanity of Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit. When we turned our lives over to God we received the presence and power of the same spirit that was with Jesus. The Bible says that when this happens we are adopted into the family of God and made joint-heirs with Christ.

John 5

When we look around, or inside, we see that everybody hurts. Over here is a family with an income of $550 a week and an outgo of $1,000. Over there is a family with two children who, according to their dad, are “failures.” “You’re stupid. You never do anything right,” he is constantly telling them. The lady over there just found a tumor that tested positive. The Smith’s little girl has a hole in her heart.

“Sam & Louise just had a nasty fight. Each is thinking of divorce. Last Monday Jim learned that he was being laid off. Sarah has tried her best to cover the bruises her drunken husband inflicted when he came home Friday night. That teen over there feels like he is on the rack, pulled in both directions. Parents & church pull one way, peers & glands pull the other.

“Then there are those of us with lesser hurts, but they don’t seem so small to us: an unresponsive spouse, a boring job, a poor grade, a friend or parent who is unresponsive …on & on the stories go. The lonely, the dying, the discouraged, the exhausted, we’re all here.

Unbelief, John 4:43

Where is your unbelief? What does your unbelief demand? Does your unbelief demand miracles? You just saw one, what else do you need? Does your unbelief demand the words of Christ? You just heard them. And you can read them every time you open the pages of the New Testament. Does your unbelief demand just the beauty of the person of Christ, read about Him right here. Whatever your unbelief demands, it’s here…it’s here. Jesus meets it.

If your unbelief demands the person of Christ, meet Him…His matchless person. If your unbelief demands the words of Christ, hear them, His matchless words. If your unbelief demands miracles, see them they are matchless also. Jesus always meets the demands of unbelief and how you respond to His meeting your demands determines your destiny. You have no excuse. Whatever your unbelief demands Jesus has met it.

Part Two.

These verses depict the final step in the process of salvation—the sharing of one’s newly-found faith with others. The woman’s original purpose was to draw water from the well, but now she forsakes her waterpot and hurries back to Sychar, where she tells the others about Jesus. She sees beyond our Lord’s revelation of the truth about her marriages and sexual morality, telling them that a man “told her everything she ever did.” The woman speaks of Jesus as a possible Messiah. The way she phrases her question does not indicate her certainty on this point, but she at least regards Jesus as a possible Messiah. The effect may have aroused curiosity among those who heard her question. The whole city begins to make its way out to the well, along with the woman.

The same fundamental issues described in John chapter 3 are present in chapter 4. The “woman at the well” is a Samaritan, and Samaritans have their own distinct religion—a corruption of the Jewish faith. If the woman at the well is to come to a saving faith, she must change her course, just as Jesus required of Nicodemus. Both Nicodemus and the woman at the well must decide what to do with what Jesus has told them. Ultimately, this decision is based upon who they believe Jesus to be. To Nicodemus, Jesus is an “inspiring,” perhaps even an “inspired,” teacher. The woman at the well comes to see Jesus as much more than this, as we soon shall see.

John 4 - Samaritans

America has a long history of prejudice. It is not at the top of the list for topics we discuss, but it has been with us for centuries. The same was true for a group of people in Jesus’ day called the Samaritans. If you look on a map you would find that you have three main areas on the west side of the Jordan river: Judea in the South, Galilee in the North and Samaria in the middle. Imagine if you will these three sections. Jesus grew up in the North and HQ out of the Northern part this is why He is called the Galilean. Peter was accused of having an accent from Galilee that he denied. Jerusalem is in the South where the temple is located so every Passover he would travel to the South for a few days and then travel back North where the bulk of his ministry is accomplished.

Jesus had a choice to make. Would he react to the Pharisee prodding or respond by recognizing it was not time? He responded to the situation as a whole with His vision and goals in mind. Seeking transformation means that we must take God’s vision and goals for us in mind when making decisions, especially when anger or frustration is involved. John, in these statements, helps us see how to put belief into action and so can you!
