We see an implicit warning against jealousy and envy. The Pharisees were mad because Jesus was gaining followers and they were losing in their minds. We must be careful about jealousy and envy. It can eat away at us. It breaks down relationships. It stifles creativity and production. Jealousy kills.

2. There will always be those who do not believe. This is the sad reality we live in. Many will and many will not. It does not matter how many miracles…some will only be in it for themselves.

3. Finally, the indictment John makes against some needs mentioning here. We must be very careful to be looking for the praise of God more than man. John indicts them here as believers with reservation. There’s no joy in being ashamed. Paul said to not be ashamed of the gospel. There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, eternally. Yet, there will be a sense of judgment now. Jesus said that those who are ashamed of Him He will be ashamed of later. If we say that we believe, then we must actively believe. This is the whole point of John…pisteuo.
